This piece is on the front cover of the Springsteen tour book.
I was inspired by a story I heard a guy tell about a banner he saw when he was a boy visiting a sideshow many many moons ago.
It had this big beautiful claim you see here on the left (but I think he only paid a nickel). It was huge, and lured you into one small tent. Maybe even smaller than the banner itself.
Anyhoo, the guy pays his money and walks into the tent ready to hear something utterly profound, right? In the center of the tent he sees an old man sitting on a stool on a slightly raised platform. He is whittling busily away on a piece of wood. He pauses for a moment looks the kid in the eyes and says with great seriousness, "Whenever you whittle, always keep the knife blade pointed away from your body." He then returns to the carving and goes on with his work.
And that as they say is that.
